If you live in the US you are probably familiar with Auto Parts stores such as Auto Zone or Advanced auto parts etc.... They have a code reader they can hook up to your vehicle and for no charge or obligation they usually will tell you why the light is on and perhaps reset it for you. They've always done it for me. The number 7 fuse is for the back up lights on a 2000 WV Golf. This fuse also runs the speedometer and vehicle speed sensor.

On my 2006 Golf, when opening the bonnet, there's a metal piece inscribed on the chassis right in front of the radiator stating exactly what oil to put in (20W 50). If not there, try reading it up in your instruction manual ;)

It will have to go to a garage with the correct equipment to evacuate the system and then recharge it, its not possible to do this at home.Hope this helps

A fuse box diagram for a 1996 Volkswagen GTI can be found on inside the cover of the fuse box. It can also be found in the cars owners manual.

There isn't one as such. You would have to disconnect it a little to drain it.

I believe you can unhook the battery and let it sit for about 5 minutes before hooking it back up. Otherwise you need a VAGscanner to reset the fault codes.

First, turn on ignition and hold down right trip button while turning off ignition. Then, turn ignition back on and release right trip button. And then, turn left trip button to the right and release. Finally, turn off ignition. Service indicator should be reset when you next start the vehicle.

First, buy a set of Multipoint bits to lossen the drive shafts.

2: Buy a 17mm hex socket to remove the fill and drain oil plug from the box.

3:Get a Engine support jig or jack stands and lots of muscle

4: Drain the oil. always loss the fill plug first and then the drain.

5: Support the engine or put a jack stand under the oil pan, CAREFULLY.

6: Rise the car and secure it with jack stands

7: loose the drive shaft inner bolts, keep them in pairs with their spacer.

8: Loose all engine and box mounts.

9: Remove the box mount support bracket.

10: Remove the starter.

11: Remove all 4 bolts that secure the box to the engine.

12: Get a couple of friends or a box jack.

13: remove the shifting bar connecting rods.

14: Now remove the box carefully,you need to rotate it a liitle bit for it to come loose. it is not that heavy but with extra hands is better and easier.

15: If you are doing the clutch, you'll need:

A- Complete clutch kit, Brand: LUK. it is the OEM.

B- Mail Box Shaft Seal.

C- acting bar seal and cooper Bushing. andt the bar also, it wears out and it is not the same lenght as new and this affects the clutch operation.

D- T.O. Bearing spring and lock; and actuator finger

E- Now that you are there you might change the main crankshaft rear seal.

F- buy a Mulltipoint 9mm socket to remove the flywheel.

G- Buy the preasure plate bolts, these need to be new as they are streatch bolts and cant be reused. the flywheel bolts can be reused.

Take your time, dont rush things. Buy alot of brake cleaner to get everything very clean.

Check your flywheel to see if it needs to be resurface or replaced.

There are alot of spare parts you'll need to buy from a dealer or by Internet.

If you do all of this, you wont have to do this in about 100k miles or depending on your driving.

The gas tank on the 2003 Volkswagen GTI holds 14.5 gal..

For all 2000-2004 VW GTI with the 1.8L 4-cyl engine (AWD, AWP, & AWW), the manufacturer recommends that the timing belt be replaced at 120,000 mile intervals. All my data states belts should be inspected at 60,000mls and then every 20,000mls afterwards( replace as necessary ) Replacement every 120,000mls the tensioner pulley must also be replaced

The stereo doesn't have its own fusebox, but the audio fuse is in the fusebox under the hood, its a 5amphere I believe. Whats your business with it?

If it is a 1.8 or 1.8t it has 20 valves. (4cylinder 5 valves per cylinder). UK model with 2.0 engine different but so slow does not deserve to be called GTi.

sounds to me like the thermostat has gone

... or possibly water pump failure (eg at 100K miles) or an oil problem.

First check the coolant level. If it's at the proper level it is probably the thermostat It could be the thermostat, water pump, or even the radiator fan switch. If it only overheats when the car is driven at low speeds or in heavy traffic it might be the fan switch. If it overheats even when moving at a constant high rate of speed (over 45mph or so) then it is probably the water pump or thermostat.

Go to any automotive store (Pepboys, Advanceautoparts, autozone) and they have manuals for just about every vehicle made. They cost around $15.00, and have a complete electrical diagram.

You could also go to www.alldatadiy.com and sign up for a subscription for your vehicle, and they have the online version of the official service manual. The price for the online subscription is 75% less than purchasing the service manual!

i would suggest if you havnt done one before then don't do it, they are pretty straight but not for someone who hasn't done a cambelt change before cos if you don't line the pulleys up right you will bend the valves so i would let someone else do it for you.
