How do you change the head light bulb on a 2007 S40 Volvo?

Lift the bonnet and find the peg on the inboard side of the light fitting - looks like a tent peg. Pull it out then push from the inside on the inboard side of the light. Take care not to drop it or force it out too hard. It's locked in on the wing end with a push fitting. Simples

This also applies to the 2008 s40 ..Thanks

What oil do you put in a petrol golf GTi?

Depending on what engine you have, it differs. A MKV 2.0T FSI/TSI uses 5W-40 or 0W-40, always make sure to use oil that meets VW's 500.02 standard. In many areas, you'll want to buy your oil from the dealership parts department (It's actually cheaper than most auto parts stores).

What kind of damage should you anticipate in a used car with a salvage title?

Depends on what the salvage title was issued for. Some are for damaged vehicles that were totalled by insurance companies..... Others are from mechanic's leins because customers did not pay the mechanic...... And others are because the owner forfeited the vehicle to the police because of a DUI, some vehicle impounding or abandoned vehicle. A salvaged title could mean anything from a bumper that was damaged so much that once it was resold it had to be salvaged to a car almost being totaled and has a frame that is welded big time. If you have a specific vehicle in mind, try doing a search on the vin number and there are sites that will give you the history of the vechicle. good luck. == Buying a salvage car is the same as buying any used car. Have it inspected by a pro prior to purchase. Things to look for are frame damage, correct bodywork and doors that open and close properly and don't leak. A carfax is helpful but the info can be delayed or incomplete so don't bank on it. Run the VIN thru your local DMV to make sure the car is titled to the person selling it, too!

I have purchased 2 salvage/reconstructed cars and they've both been great values and excellent cars. Older salvage vehicles are safer bets than new ones since it doesn't take much to total a car that's only worth $4000. A newer car that's been salvaged could have sustained over $15K in damage and that's major! Think about this: a new car is rear ended and sustains $5000 in damage; it gets to keep its clean title. An eight year old car with the same damage would end up with a salvage title. Same damage, different title. A clean title, therefore, does not mean a clean title, it just means the car was worth enough money when it was damaged. A clean title does not mean a clean car. At least a salvage title is honest about its prior damage! Lesson: Never buy a newer salvage car and never trust a newer used car to be clean. Have every used car you buy inspected by a pro and if it checks out ok and the price is right buy it! Keep in mind that reconstructed/salvage cars are worth 40% less that comparable clean titled cars so don't pay too much!

Your golf gti oil pressure light keeps coming on saying stop engine check oil pressure but no oil is needed?

Due to the possible seriousness of low oil pressure, I suggest you (asap)check the actual oil pressure using a oil pressure gauge and compare the result with manufacturers/workshop manual specification.

I believe its possible to unscrew the existing oil pressure switch from the main oil gallery/engine and fit a oil pressure gauge (0 to 100psi).

If the oil pressure is at the value (or near it) that the manual states , then the oil pressure switch is faulty and should be replaced

If the oil pressure is low then further investigation is required as to why it is low, could be the oil pump, but also could be other causes.

This happened to my brother's engine this week. He has a 2005 Mark V Golf GTI. The problem is a fault with ALL Mark V engines. There's a gauze filter in the oil pickup pipe going from the bottom of the engine to the oil pump that gets completely blocked up. Even if you're Golf is not showing this fault at present, it may be starving the turbo of oil anyway (if you have one).

Solution: Drain oil from engine (remove bung in sump), before you remove sump, there's 3 bolts that go through the gearbox housing into the sump. Remove these. Remove sump (Allen key). There's no gasket between sump and engine. Rub old sealant off rim. You will be able to see right up into the engine at this point. There is a small pipe going from the oil pump into where the sump was. This pipe is normally sitting in the oil and it sucks up oil from the sump into the oil pump when the engine is started. The pipe is fixed to the oil pump with one Allen-key head screw and a rubber O-ring. Remove this and take off the pipe. The gauze filter is at the end of the pipe. Try and get a replacement from a motor-factor. Alternatively, you can clean it out well using petrol. Clean the sump well with petrol.

Replace all parts in reverse order! The job took about 3 hours to do and the car drives like a rocket now! If you're not confident enough to do all of this yourself get someone you know that's used to working on engines.

BE WARNED - if you continue to drive your car with this fault light coming on you will be shopping for a new engine very soon.

How do you recharge the AC on a 1995 Grand Am with the 3100 V6?

Depends, what is it doing. Are you getting air volume out of your vents? Is it Hot/Cold/Luke Warm. If it's hot/luke warm, is your ac compressor kicking on (should be a spinning piece in the center of the compressor, it's called a Magneto Clutch)? If it's not kicking on, check 4 things (three of which are sensors and easy to check. First, unplug the low pressure cut-off switch, there should be two connector points, put a paperclip in them (like a jumper). Does the compressor kick on ? If yes, check pressure on low side (By firewall, carefull, not fun to access). If pressure is low, put freon in it and it should work fine. IF the compressor did not turn on, there are two other switches to check, your actuall compressor switch and your compressor High Pressure cut-off switch. If it does not come on after testing the switches, take it to a proffesional. If it is R134a compliant just connect your recharge kit to the low pressure port located under the front end on the compressor ( passenger side front) and follow the directions, if it is R12 you will need to take it to a shop.

How do you pop the hood of an 83 VW Rabbit GTI from the front?

Well, fact is, you shouldn't pop the hood from the front. You should pop it from the lever on the driver's side if at all possible. But if the cable is broken and you have no other choice: The latch is dead center of the car, just above the VW logo in the grill. You should see where the cable is or was hooked into the latch that holds the hood down. Get a pair of pliers, grab onto this lever and pull it to the right (like what the cable would do if you pulled the lever) and the latch should release.

How do you change the bulb of a head light on a 1995 Chevy Lumina?

Here's how it's done on a '91. Under the hood there is a plastic piece that flips up between the radiator and the grill that provides access to the back of the headlight housing. Find the wire that goes to the center of this housing. A slight twist of the piece the wire goes in to allows the piece to be pulled out of the housing. The bulb is on the other end of this piece. Be careful handling the new bulb!. You DO NOT WANT TO LET ANYTHING TOUCH THE NEW GLASS BULB ITSELF. If you get any grease or even finger oil on the glass part of the bulb, it will shortly fail. These bulbs get very hot and grease or finger oil will cause it to break when it first burns.

How do you reset your service indicator on your 99 A class?

Here you go:

Turn the ignition key to position 2.
Press the 000.0 button twice within one second.
Turn the ignition key to position 0.
Press and hold the 000.0 button while turning the ignition key to position 2.
Continue to hold the 000.0 button in for at least 10 seconds.
After 10 seconds an audible tone should sound and the display will show that the count has been reset.

I got the above from the user manual of my 02-reg A140. Hopefully it will work for you. Good luck!

When does the timing belt need changing on 1999 golf gti 125 bhp?

Usually between 60-70k miles. The manufacture has a set milage but this is only a guide and does depend on the driving wether in city or motorway. obviously with city driving the belt have dont more work once the milage has been reached. Safe to get it done, ensure that they change the tensioner(contains bearing) for the timing belt and whole water pump and or its bearing and seals. Hope this helps Stephen

The tail lights on a VW Golf may keep blowing if a short is present in the system. When wires become damaged, they will quickly overload a circuit and blow fuses and bulbs.
