How do you change the coolant in your 2001 VW GTI?
As far as i am aware, Vdubs don't need to have the coolant changed. And if you do happen to have the coolant changed make sure you only use the red stuff. That crap that says it works for both red and green i wouldn't trust. As i am sure you may know how expensive parts can cost for Vdubs, so i don't think you wanna mess anything up and have to replace it. I have a 01 GTI VR6 and have never changed coolant in it. You just mainly have to make sure it has the proper amount in it.

Your mk2 golf 16v gti wont start?
If the engine is turning over but the motor is not starting, then the problem could be a major leak in a vacuum line. Spray starting fluid and see if it does anything. If it tries to run but fails then it's the fuel system or a vaccum line. I have a 16v myself and one of those is always the problem. 16v motors are extremely sensitive.

Most insurers will not provide coverage at all for a salvaged vehicle and consider them unsafe. Some will provide Liability coverage but not full coverage. Others will provide full coverge But in the event of Loss, especially a Total Loss, any pay out will be much lower due to the already diminished value of a Grey Market Vehicle. Salvaged Vehicles, also known as Grey Market Vehicles have higher loss rates due to mechanical and structural deficiencies, This is why they were considered a total loss by the previous insurer.
ANSWER If you mean salvage but reconstructed (roadworthy) then yes, most insurance companies will insure the car (some will want to inspect the car). I have owned to totaled/reconstructed cars that were older and totaled due to cosmetic damage and they have been fine and reliable cars to own (and cost 40-50% less). I only put liability and comprehensive on these cars (I could probably get collision but don't bother). Remember, if a totaled car is totaled again you will only get 50-60% of the value of a car with a clean title from the insurance company plus credit for any upgrades (keyless entry, new tires, stereo, etc).

Lots of things! Fuel pressure, good spark, timing, immo.....etc, etc. first run a diagnostic with a good scanner. That should give a darn good indication of the prob. If no scanner, check for the availability of good fuel pressure and/or good spark. If they are okay see a reputable garage!!

Are all golf gti with a turbo?
no not all golf gti's have a turbo on the newer golf's it's the one's with a red i in gti that are turboed ok buddy If you are buying a brand new Golf GTI, you can request that the model that you will buy has a turbo in it or none. Of course by adding this feature increases the price of the unit. If you are buying a second hand Golf GTI, I suggest that you research car advertisings first and locate a used Golf GTI with a turbo (if that is what you desire), compare prices and values/condition, then grab it. This way, you will get the specification you want at the price you can afford.
Valve clearance on golf 2 GTI 8v?
Valve clearance is not an issue with big-block VW engines (1.6L > 2.0L) as they employ overhead camshafts with hydraulic lifters (tappets). The lifters are self adjusting and maintenance-free, so there is no adjustment for valve clearance.
Tapping/rattling noises coming from the cylinder head generally result from a sticking lifter or excess valve-guide wear.
Lifters are not expensive and can be replaced with the cylinder head left in situ. It is also possible to strip, clean and rebuild lifters with little more than carbon-removing oven cleaner and a little patience.

How do you fit an electric wing mirror switch on Mk4 golf?
Involves removing the door car/moulding. Remove all visible screws. Three from the underside, bottom edge of the card, then one or two from the edge closest to the hinge. separate the door handle by first removing the inner dimpled section. This is done by coaxing it towards the fabric of the door card; gentle persuasion from a screwdriver may help here. Pull the door handle moulding containing the window switches up to remove. Remove the three largest screws behind the door handle that secure the card to the door pressing. Now carefully separate the card from the inner panel of the door. Lift the card to remove as the top edge sits in the window slot. Good idea here to have a tool box to sit the card on to avoid making any more disconections and lean the card against the door. The switch can now be removed. Another way, may be to use some feeler gauges by sliding them between the top and bottom edges of the switch and the outer moulding. This will save the removal of the door card but if not done carefully, may result in some unsightly witness marks on the plastic surround. Dave Brown
