I don't really know why some coasts are not protected, but my guess is that it's expensive most of the time to put up sea defenses... Some may be missing defense because it's not eco friendly (hard engineering, that is) and not very attractive. This lowers the value of beaches. Then there are some beaches on small islands or isolated coasts that maybe don't really need the protection because either no one cares or there's no need for them. Isolated coastlines don't really need them...
Anyway, this was my geography homework question and i think I may have answered it... Maybe... Wtv.
Hope this answers your question!

Australian wetlands look rather like wetlands in other areas of the world. As permanent waterholes, they support a huge variety of native bird and animal life. They tend to be surrounded by sparse bushland, but some wetlands may be contained within heavier tropical rainforest.
The habitats favoured by swans vary with species, but they are often found on rivers and streams, particularly slower flowing ones. They also frequent lakes.
Why is it important to conserve other wetlands?
To reduce death of fish for eating. Wetlands provide a valuable flood control function and are also very effective at filtering and cleaning water before it get in to our lakes and streams.
