A key element in Pat Walden's sound was his use of the fender Jazzmaster/Jaguar, and in particular the tremelo arm. Doing arpeggios whilst manipulating the tremelo arm, or bending a note and vigorously shaking the arm to create a furocious or frantic sound. He was also notorious for his shambolic improvisation inspired by jazz guitarists with a shambolic punk twist and lots of distortion, so learning lots of scales and applying them to fit the song would be good.. Play notes in a major scale in the same key as the singer. also, use chords that don't have the root or lowere notes in them, just the 4 highest strings of chord. also pick upwards when you play the cords. and take alot of drugs befor doing any of this.
