To the best of my recollection, 4 people died as a direct result of the Severn Floods of July 2007. ( I am from the district, I was lucky, my house not affected) A few families are still not back in their homes, still living in caravans in their front gardens.
The Gloucestershire floods primarily occurred in July 2007, with significant flooding affecting the region from July 20 to July 25. The worst of the flooding subsided by late July, but recovery efforts and impacts lasted for several weeks afterward. The situation was exacerbated by heavy rainfall and the River Severn overflowing its banks, leading to extensive damage and disruption in the area.
The Gloucestershire floods of 2007 were caused by a period of exceptionally heavy rainfall in July of that year. The region experienced more than double its average rainfall for the month leading to flooding in many areas. The floods were caused by a number of factors including: A low-pressure weather system that brought heavy downpours. The fact that the area had already experienced above-average rainfall in the weeks preceding the floods. The geography of the area with rivers running through narrow valleys increasing the speed of the water and making flooding more likely. All of these factors combined to create a perfect storm which caused extensive flooding in Gloucestershire resulting in significant damage to property and infrastructure and sadly the loss of life.
I am not sure of the exact amount but it was overwhelming that more than 1,000 people had to leave their homes - dams were collapsing as well as bridges houses getting flooded people being swept away along with the water.
In 2007 gloucestershire flooded really badly
Determining which flooding is worse between Gloucestershire and Yorkshire can depend on various factors, such as the extent of rainfall, geography, and local infrastructure. Historically, both regions have experienced significant flooding, with Yorkshire often facing severe impacts due to its river systems and topography. However, Gloucestershire has also faced devastating floods, notably in 2007. The severity can vary year by year, so it's essential to consider specific events for a more accurate comparison.
