The term "Aryan" originates in India and Persia as a self-designation. Since the 19th century it has been used for all speakers of Indo-European languages. The Aryan people thus include groups as diverse as the Celts, Latins, Germanic people, Greeks, Slavs, Armenians, Persians and Indo-Aryans, who may share a common ancestry. This has nothing to do with physical attributes such as blonde hair or blue eyes (neither did even the Nazis claim that to be the case).
Aryans should not be confused with Arianism, which was an early Christian heresy.
