In the 8th century, Ancient Greece was a democratic government. This type of government began in the city of Ancient Athens.
Peaceful Athens exist today because the type of government is democracy and Sparta is oligarchy and democracy went on but not oligarchy. We still have the type of government democracy today.

Ancient Athens type of government was democracy. They had a democratic rule.
Athens was ruled by a single person under a type of government known as a "tyranny." In this system, a tyrant seized power unconstitutionally and often ruled without the consent of the governed. While the term "tyrant" has a negative connotation today, some ancient tyrants in Athens implemented reforms and policies that benefited the populace.

But, their type of government was a little different than our because it was just a little city, so it was a lot smaller than ours because we are a huge country.
