Five facts about the Plains tribes:

  1. The true Plains tribes were nomadic and grew no crops of any kind. The one exception were the Crows of south central Montana, who grew a specific type of tobacco that was never used for smoking - it had religious significance and was only used in certain ceremonies and in medicine bundles.
  2. The Plains tribes depended mainly on two animals - the horse and the buffalo (bison).
  3. The Plains culture only existed because of the re-introduction of horses to the Americas by white people. The Plains culture was also destroyed by white people in the late 19th century.
  4. Each tribe spoke its own different language, so communication was mainly by use of an extensive and expressive sign language. This could enable long, silent conversations to be conducted even at a distance.
  5. The Plains tribes either moved into the Plains after acquiring horses, from the eastern woodlands area (as in the case of the Lakota, Cheyenne and Assiniboin) or from the far north (as in the case of the Plains Cree, Comanche and Sarsi).

The US Government semiofficially tried to exterminate them by killing the bison herds they depended on for food. The plains Indians had little choice between being forcibly moved to reservations or starvation. Many in the US Government would have been glad to see the plains Indians refuse to move to reservations and starve completely.

Why are Native Americans NOT native to America?

They ARE native to America. Every group migrated from Africa, but the first ones to the area become native to that area._______________________________________The answer to the question: Why are Native Americans NOT native to America is: Because they immigrated from Asia. Like all American's they traveled to North America from elsewhere. You cannot prove a negative, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Without evidence, and or theory to the contrary it is assumed that the facts supporting that "Native Americans" are native to America is true. Native Americans have proof of at least 10,000 years of existence in the same place as they are now. Human history dates back approximately 8,000 years, as a measure of reference.

Did Native Americans have alcohol before the Europeans came?

Sandia labs researchers are using science (specifically gas chromatography and mass spectrometry) to analyze Native American pots from the American Southwest. The 'belief', not facts based, of archeologists that Europeans introduced fermented beverages aka alcohol to the Native Americans is probably faulty. Historical evidence for fermented beverages exist for surrounding native groups around the North American continent. Further information is now found in many places around the Internet. look for scientific investigations.
