All through history, the jobs done by slaves remained roughly the same; so then as in New England, about 80% were imployed working in the fields, 10-15% were household slaves and the remaining 5% could develop themselves into artisans, bookkeepers, supervisors and other jobs that came with special skills or talent.
The south was agriculturally heavy, so they needed someone to do the hard work. The north was focused much more on industrial type jobs, which did not need slaves.

There is a bit of misunderstanding here concerning slavery. There were no "city slaves" and any African American in the south was a slave. To leave the plantation they had to have a pass. On the plantation there were different jobs that determined the type of slave they were.
they are dirty due to the type the work they do.. dirty jobs that rich people cant do coz of their expensive clothes
