South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas were the first 7 states to secede from the union, and Arkansas, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee joined later. They all seceded between December, 1860, and April, 1861, before and at the very front end of Lincoln's presidency.
