Socialists and WWIIn fact, the vast majority of socialists in Europe did NOT oppose WWI. Those who did oppose the the war said that that particular war was irreconcilable with fundamental socialist convictions about the 'brotherhood of mankind'. This view was shared in some European countries by a very small number of Liberals. The violent conflict between nations, or groups of nations, is antithetical to the struggle between economic classes. Workers do not benefit from territorial disputes between France and Germany, they should be directing their efforts toward getting better wages and working conditions.
