Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Darkness.
Well, you don't. First off you start off by answering select few questions, that everyone who firsts starts the game gets asked, that's how they decide which Pokemon you are. So YOU DON'T decide which Pokemon you are, the QUESTIONS decide which Pokemon you are. Also, if you don't like the Pokemon that was chosen for you, you can try again, by turing off you DS and pressing the start button and redo the whole process.
