If you already captured the calf, go back to the cattle herder and she asks for another favor. If you're having trouble lassoing, hit space and watch it swing around you. When it is lined up with a cow, hit space to throw it. The cows aren't spread throughout the island, they're all grouped somewhere up and to the left of the cattle rancher's ranch.
See the girl rancher in Rock Ridge, then leave town and go left and up, following the hoofprints. You will find the calf near Dos Cactos. Lasso it and lead it slowly but firmly back to the corral just left of Rock Ridge.
(You can get a costume for catching the 5 larger cattle, but you do not have to catch them to complete the island. They are all very close to the corral. )
The 5 cattle are all close to the corral, just up and either left or right. Lasso them and bring them slowly but firmly back to the corral. After you get all five, go talk to the girl at Rock Ridge and she will give you a Rattlesnake Wrangler costume.

Most of the other 5 cattle are up and just to the left or right from the corral. Occasionally one will be directly to the right, or directly left behind the old ranch shack. They seldom go as far up as the first calf you catch.
While the calf is farther up toward Dos Cactos, most of the 5 cattle will be relatively close to the corral, either up and left or just to the right.
