Unfortunately, the lineage of many of these rifles is a bit blurred. Stevens was acquired by Savage Arms about 1920. As a result, the same model may have the name Stevens, Savage, or Springfield (a Savage brand name), and finding an exact date of manufacture may not be possible- but you CAN check with Savage customer service through their webiste- they ARE still in business. The value of ANY gun is based on exact make, model, and condition. These very nice little rilfes were utility grade shooters, and their main value is as a shooter- not as a collector's item. In fair condition, most retail for $100-$150. Good rifles. EDIT: DID find a listing- the model 49 "Challenge" was only listed on the Stevens price list for one year-1929. Was priced at $6.
