Generally, the Germans were taking so many irreplaceable casualties, thought to be around six million by 1918, while the Allies were taking in 250,000 American doughboys every six months. The Central Powers were also beaten in industrial output. The German army paid a high price for little gain and the men were near mutiny by November 1918.

The War ended for Russia when the Bolsheviks toppled the Czar in 1917. Bulgaria capitulated first, then the Ottoman Empire, Austria-Hungary, and finally Germany. The Armistice was put into effect at 11am, November 11, 1918.
