World War I had profound and lasting consequences that reshaped the global landscape. Firstly, the war led to the collapse of empires, such as the Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires, resulting in the creation of new nation-states and altering national borders across Europe and the Middle East. Secondly, the Treaty of Versailles imposed harsh reparations on Germany, fostering resentment that would later contribute to the rise of extremism and World War II. Thirdly, the war catalyzed significant social changes, including women's increased participation in the workforce, as they took on roles traditionally held by men who were fighting. Finally, the war also sparked revolutionary movements, notably in Russia, leading to the establishment of communist regimes. These consequences collectively laid the groundwork for future geopolitical tensions and social transformations in the 20th century.
