Hagerty was a strange, sad case. Not long after the IWW was formed he severed all connections with it, and also with the Catholic Church, adopted the pseudonym Ricardo Moreno, and made a living teaching Spanish, and as an oculist. Some old acquaintances tracked him down and found him living on the streets of Chicago in direst poverty, a beggar, eating at soup kitchens and surviving on whatever coins he could get from begging. His death went unnoticed, and is said to have been "sometime in the 1920s". He is probably buried anonymously in an unmarked grave in "potter's field", of where ever it was Chicago did charity burials, or under similar circumstances elsewhere.
