A horse could be maybe at least 2 years old, depending on their training and how well trained they are. Depending on the horse and its training is when it can start barrel racing. :)

What is the best age to start barrel racing?

If we are talking about a person's age there is no magic number. Barrel racing as a sport is fast-paced and demanding physically and mentally. A person first needs to ride with a certain amount of skill and at the very least know basic horsemanship. The person in the saddle needs to be big enough physically to be able to control a half-ton of horse at full blast. Several years of riding at least. For the horse the same applies here. The horse must have more than just the basics. And for barrel racing 'flying changes' are a must. Because it is such a strenous sport the horse should be at least 5 or 6 years old. Too much stress on young bones and joints could be disasterous for the horse. If at all possible get advice from somebody that knows the sport. Footnote:Not all horses will excel at barrels. Its important to find the right horse, with the right temperment and build. For this sport you may need a horse that's a little hot.

How old is a horse when it can not race anymore?

when it died. A horse can't race anymore when it is permanently limping or has a permanent issue. If you want your horse to be seriously injured you can continue racing it. I have an Arabian who is 20 and fully capable of racing but when we trailered her the first time she injured herself and now has a HUGE scar. I would still be racing her except every time she turns the 2nd barrel on barrel racing she falls because the scar stretches and hurts her. I also have a horse over 30 yrs old and she is still racing w/ a slight limp. If yours has any serious issues you should stop racing it, if not you can keep racing it but when it gets to a point where it doesn't like racing or your not so sure about him/her anymore then you should retire him/her. Hope this helps!! :)

What horse riding exercises can you do to improve bending?

The basic exercise you can do to improve the horses bending/tension in the neck is to trot figure eights. Before you do this though, you should gently bend the horses neck to its shoulder both sides. You can also do a bit of barrel racing.

You would really like to do barrel racing?

Start off with barrel racing lessons first if possible. If not possible, the second best thing would be to get some videos and books and study up on it. Then if you decide you really like it, try to get your hands on an older horse experienced in barrel racing. Depending on your previous riding experience would determine just how old he should be. for a beginer rider, you want to look into 10 year olds or older but if you have alot of riding experience, you could go for a horse closer to 5.
