your question is not very specific. i think i get what you are asking though. the answer i have is money, prestige, skill or to help their training. some horses are better at some events than others, if you can, you should find out the breeding of the horse to tell from its dam and sire what it is most likely good at and you can help the horse improve and become great.
horse competitions are like show jumping cross country dressage or mixed shows
a horse can do many competitions like jumping, racing, rodeos, fair, trail, and much more
Andalusians are often used for dressage because of their presence in the ring and their responsiveness, but they are sometimes used for jumping. Also, they are used just to show, such as in a flat class or even a halter class. P.S. they are my fav breed! They are awesome
Horses most commonly used in dressage competitions are light breeds, such as the Thoroughbred or any of the variety of warmbloods (Hanoverian, Irish Sport Horse, Oldenburg, etc.) More heavy-set horses are used less frequently for dressage. It is rare to see a draft horse (Clydesdale, Percheron, Shire, etc) competing in dressage, although every horse can learn the basics behind dressage.
