Hamsters are naturally inquisitive animals, so it is perfectly normal for them to escape. They are not escaping because they don't like their cage or anything, they just find a hole or a crack and want to explore. To prevent their escape make sure all the doors are firmly shut and the only holes in the cage are the bars. To capture them again, be very quiet in the room they are probably in and you will probably hear them nibbling away. If this fails put a tall box in the middle of the floor with their favourite treats and bedding. Then place a ramp or a book against the box so that the hamster can climb in. As the sides are steep the hamster will be there when you get back. If your hamster is shy, keep away from the box and check every hour or so.

Hello. My names is Howard Bentley and I am a scientist who tests these types of things every day. Okay the only reason a hamster might escape is if they feel threatened by anything or if their cage is not roomy enough. If you start having problems with your hamster biting the cages you might need to switch what food he/she is eating because they must not like it. Hamsters are very fragile so do not scare them or they will become frightened and run, they want run far because they know if they leave they will more than likely starve. And depending on if you have a male or female they get scared easily With males they do not get very frightened but females will to tend to freeze in place for hours-----like gerbils------------ Hamsters are really good pets and don't let people who say they escape change your mind about getting one. Sincerely H. Bentley

Hamsters love getting out of their cages, even for a few minutes. I have a hamster , so I know what your talking about. A way to stop your hamster from getting out often is by taking it out 15 to 30 minutes a day. Bye! Hope this information helped!

That depends how old the hamster is. If it is new it is likely to be scared. You can get it used to you by just watching it for a while. After a couple of days you can try hand feeding it. Once it is used to you you can try and pick it up and play with it. Remember to do this daily. If the hamster is not new then it may be unwell. If that is the case then you should get it checked out by the vet.

Many guinea pigs enjoy these "igloos" or other such small animal huts, but they might not necessarily want to be in them all of the time. Make sure that your pet's cage is clean (especially underneath the igloo if he spends a lot of his time there). Also, be certain to wash out the plastic igloo once every week or so with mild soap and water.

Hamsters don't always need to sleep inside their house. They can sleep where ever they are comfortable. No need to worry. My hamster does it too.

He needs some hard wood blocks to gnaw on. He is possibly bored - add a wheel.

NEVER put the new hamster in the same cage, with same stuff! BOIL the toys, cage, in warm, soapy water for 30 minutes! If you don't you are most likely to have another sick/dead hamster :( The disease might remain in the same cage where the sick hamster may have touched, nibbled or made any contact with. Stay safe!

How not to scare your hamster?

When first getting a hamster, you should give it a couple of days to adjust. You can start to get to know them by laying your hand in the cage with a treat on it. Your hamster will probably sniff your hand, and then grab the treat. If your hamster bites your hand, pull your hand out of the cage. Keep trying this for a couple of days and your hamster will begin to feel more comfortable around you!
