A percentage is essentially a fraction of the total amount stated, the total amount being 100%. Each percentage point is one hundredth of the total.
eg. 10% is equal to 10/100 which is 1/10.
To take your example: Find 20% of 60
60 = 100%
Divide the total by 100 to find 1%. 60/100 = 0.6
Therefore 1% = 0.6
Multiply this by the percentage required. 20 x 0.6 = 12
20% = 12
12 is 20% of 60

To get 30 percent of something, multiply that something to 0.30 which is the decimal equivalent of 30%. Example: 30% of 49 = 0.30 * 49 = 14.7
All one has to do to work out the percentage is take the lesser amount and divide it by the total amount the multiply by 100. For example if one wants to find the percent they got on a test, and they got 25/30 all they would have to do is do 25 / 30 * 100 which equals 83.33%
You divide it by 10 example. if 100% of something is 10 then 10% is 10divided by 10 =1
To get 17.5% of something, multiply that something to 0.175 which is the decimal equivalent of 17.5% Example: 17.5% of 200 = 0.175 * 200 = 35
To calculate 35 percent of a number, multiply the number by 0.35. For example, 35 percent of 500 is equal to 500 x 0.35 = 175.
