The International Tennis Federation (ITF), the governing body of world tennis, arranges all major tournament schedules in conjunction with the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP; men's tour), the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), the various individual country's tennis authorities, and, of course, the various tournaments' venues and officials. The scheduling is devised to take advantage of the given venue's best possible weather conditions (usually during the host nation's spring or summer, if played outdoors), and to avoid conflicts with other important major events. In the case of the Grand Slam tournaments (i.e., the Australian, French, Wimbledon, and US Open events), the schedules are set far enough apart to allow players time to get to the given venue and have enough time to acclimate and practice.
