The first time was 1969 when Hall of Famer Ron Yary was selected by the Minnesota Vikings and the second time was 1997 when Orlando Pace was selected by the St. Louis Rams. There have been two centers selected as the #1 overall choice. In 1949, Hall of Famer Chuck Bednarik, who also played linebacker, was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles and in 1939 Ki Aldrich, who also played linebacker, was selected #1 overall by the Chicago Cardinals.
An offensive guard has never been selected #1 overall in the NFL draft.
