Feelings ran high among both fans and non-fans in Montreal and during the next game between Montreal and Detroit, league president Clarence Campbell was pelted with debris and someone set of a teargas cannister. The game was forfeited to the Red Wings and the Forum was ordered evacuated. Fans spilled out of theForum , and joined by many others outside ,started the rioting that destroyed much of the neighbourhood around the Forum area.
