One of the reason 6th army was lost due to adamant behaviour of Hitler who fell to understand huge resourceful Russian manpower and not allowing 6th army toretreat and making it prestige issue when they had chance to do so. Lack of medical supply, food , lack of proper winter clothing and severe weather added to misery. 6th army should have crossed Volga river and destroyed Russians who kept bombing Germans from there when they had chance but they did not, Stalin had enough time to move his entire eastern reinforcement to Stalingrad in the meantime. Eventually German warplanes destroyed city to rubble due to that German Tanks and Artillery equipment turned useless and they were unable to advance as 6th army faced fierce resistance from Russians who knew city better and used snipers to kill Germans. Finally when river froze more and more Russian troops were able to cross as an reinforcement and were pumped into Stalingrad due to which German 6th army lost mind battle in Stalingrad even before they lost war. But despite of all this with the courage and bravery 6th army fought it was admirable.

What were the major reasons germany lost Battle of Stalingrad?

Germany lost the Battle of Stalingrad because it could not resupply or reinforce the German Sixth Army . The Russians had severed the city from outside and besieged the city leaving the Germans with only the airfields to resupply the defenders . The resupply by air was insufficient to the needs of the German army and when the Russians overran the airfields then the Luftwaffe was forced to attempt resupply by parachute - a miserable failure for the besieged defenders . To exacerbate things Hoth's 4th Panzer Army's relief attempt was unable to break the siege . This failure along with Hitler's "Stand Fast" order meant the Sixth Army was doomed .The Russians , on the other-hand , were able to reinforce their own troops by crossing the Volga river .~ see related link below .
