Yes, he was considered one of the best lefthanded pitchers, if not THE best, in the American League. He won 23 games in 1916 and 24 games in 1917 and led the AL in ERA in 1916 at 1.75. Babe's record as a Red Sox pitcher was 89-46 with a 2.19 ERA.
He pitched in 2 World Series (1916, 1918) for the Red Sox and had a record of 3-0 with a 0.87 ERA. Ruth still holds the MLB record for longest complete game in World Series history ... a 14 inning, 6 hit, one run allowed effort against the Brooklyn Robins in Game 2 of the 1916 World Series.
