The fact is it does depend on the school or Dojo. Its location, and most of all the instructor. There are some very important factors to look at before you consider the cost. 1. What kind of training does the instructor have? Just because you are great at math does not mean you would be a good math teacher. Having a Black Belt does not make you a good instructor. A good instructor should have some sort of training on HOW to teach. 2. Is the school part of a chain or independent? You will find a lot of difference in opinion on this question and it will have to be a personal choice as to what you should do. You are going to here the phrase "McDojo" a lot but here is my argument on this subject. While we all love the little mom and pop restaurants, how often do they close down? When was the last time you saw a McDonalds close? Over the past 30 years I have trained in four schools, two of which are no longer around. Guess which two were chains? So keep in mind, are you investing in a school that will be around long enough for you to reach Black Belt? 3. The area is also a factor. What does it cost to operate a business in your area. The rent, Electric, Gas, and most of all insurance has to be paid somehow.
The most honest answer I can give you is the average cost is anywhere from $99 per month to $200 per month at a PROFFESIONAL school. Less if it's part of the park and rec program in your area, the YMCA or someone who teaches part time at a local church or hall. Other price factors are Testing, Tournaments and other school events. The truth is about 90% of schools do charge for this and rates will vary. Just be sure to ask up front about this so there are no surprises. That is going to depend on your kid, as well as the school and the instructor. For some good info, check out the attached article about choosing a martial arts school.

My friend is really good at karate, so he is thinking about teaching karate to kids who can't afford to pay for classes. I'm really good with kids, so I might tutor kids who need help in school or can't go to school. Think of something positive about yourself and try to turn it into something you can help others with. :)
Karate is very good for girls. Some of my best students are girls. They have good focus and learn well.
