Many art instructors teach facial drawing in a very similar way. First, start with a light outline, or the shape of the face, typically a vertical oval, tapering towards the bottom like an egg. Then, add two perpendicular dividing lines, intersecting where the center of the face (typically above the bridge of the nose) will occur. For most, a forward facing appearance is best, so middle of the oval will do. Then, divide the lower half in half again, and draw the nose with the bottom on that second half-way line. Now, divide the lower quarter in half yet again, and draw the lips, with the bottom lip resting on that new line. Finally, the eyes will go right on the very center horizontal line.
