Khaled Hossieni is of Afghan decent, he was born in Kabul, Afghanistan. Hossieni exposes the mistreatment of women in the Muslim culture in A Thousand Splendid Suns. My best guess for his religion is Islam. However, the connotation of the Muslim religion is somewhat negative throughout The Kite Runner. Amir's father in the Kite Runner bashes religious men, but that may or may not have something to do with Khaled Hossieni's religion.
