What is an example of a Real Time Operating System?
What is real time processing and batch processing?
Real time processing In a real time processing, there is a continual input, process and output of data. Data has to be processed in a small stipulated time period (real time), otherwise it will create problems for the system. For example: assembly line robots and radar system. batch processing In a batch processing group of transactions collected over a period of time is collected, entered, processed and then the batch results are produced. Batch processing requires separate programs for input, process and output. It is an efficient way of processing high volume of data. For example: Payroll system, Examination system and billing system.

What is response time in real time system and What is the difference between response time and execution time in real time system?
What is the difference between Hard realtime system and soft real time system?
A hard real-time system guarantees that critical tasks complete on time. This goal requires that all delays in the system be bounded from the retrieval of the stored data to the time that it takes the operating system to finish any request made of it. A soft real time system where a critical real-time task gets priority over other tasks and retains that priority until it completes. As in hard real time systems kernel delays need to be bounded

What is a real-time operating system?
A Real Time Operating System or RTOS is an operating system for creating real time applications. In real time the correctness of the application depends on the logical correctness and the time of execution. i.e. It is time critical. The output must be produced within the dead-line specified. Such real time systems are called hard real time systems. In such systems the delayed results may cause in a catastrophy. There are other real time systems called soft real time, which can tolerate the delay in results, but will result in poor quality outputs.

What does bit stand for?
In real time embedded software there is a term called BIT - "Built In Test". Its a routine done by the embedded system which checks the "real time" components of the system. For example, a sensor controller will occasionally check its connection with the sensors, a cell phone does a battery check and so on.

Main difficulties in writing an operating systems for a real time environment?
The main difficulty is keeping the operating system within the fixed time constraints of a real-time system. If the system does not complete a task in a certain time frame, it may cause a breakdown of the entire system it is running. Therefore when writing an operating system for a real-time system, the writer must be sure that his scheduling schemes don't allow response time to exceed the time constraint.
