He invented what is now simply known as Boolean logic. It is what is used in modern computers.
George Boole saw logic as a discipline of mathematics, not as a philosophy. He authored The Laws of Thought and is the inventor of Boolean Logic. Boolean logic was later used in the development of the structure for computer science and how the digital computer came to be formed. Boolean Logic is different from Algebra because it uses true and false variables as opposed to number variables.

George Boole (2 November 1815 - 8 December 1864) was an English mathematician and philosopher. As the inventor of Boolean logic - the basis of modern digital computer logic - Boole is regarded inhindsight as a founder of the field of computer science.(Wikipedia)
George Boole suggested the similarity between logic and algebraic symbols. By tying logic to algebra, Boole allowed algebra to be viewed as purely abstract. The modern applications of Booleâ??s contributions to mathematics are: computer programming, electrical engineering, satellite pictures, telephone circuits and even Einstein's theory of relativity.
George Boole introduced Boolean Algebra in 1847 as a response to an ongoing debate between two mathematicians at the time. Boolean Algebra captures essential properties of both set operations and logic operations.
George Boole invented the digital computer logic also known as Boolean logic.

It was named after George Boole, who first defined an algebraic system of logic in the mid 19th century.

George Boole (1815â??1864) was an English mathematician and a founder of the algebraic tradition in logic, the prototype of what is now called Boolean logic. Boolean logic is now the basis of the modern digital computer.

The man's name was George Boole.
I believe it was in the 1840's but George Boole the inventor of Boolean Logic lived from1815 - 1864
George Boole died in 1864, so he did not do anything in 1920. His Boolean algebra formed the logic that is now used in computing. Since his death, many other mathematicians have used and developed upon his work.
