Best Answer

In 1985 yellow tennis balls were introduced as they stood out against the court surface better than the white balls did, thus improving visibility for the tv viewer. 1985 also saw the introduction of ball girls on the show courts. This was on court one, although it is mistakenly cited as Centre Court by various sources including Wikipedia and even the offical Wimbledon website. Footage of Court One action in 1985 - the official Wimbledon film, 'Year of the Thunderbolt' - however, shows a ballgirl at the net, in identical uniform.
