The answer varies by dance school and instructor, but the overall age answer is the same: age doesn't matter.

It depends on when you started dance, how often you dance and what level you've reached. You should check with your instructor if you aren't sure how close you are to being ready.

Things that are important:

*Toe strength

*Ankle strength

*Calf strength

*A good background of Ballet

There are special pre-pointe exercises that you'll begin when your body is ready and when you've had enough years to dance to start preparing for pointe. A good dance instructor will know a) when you're ready and b) what to tell you to begin.

What is pre ballet?

Do by pre-ballet you mean pre-pointe? Because Pre-Pointe is the lesson that is provided to Pointe ballet dancers that are not yet ready to wear or perform in pointe shoes. Commonly the class is the same if not similar to regular pointe class, the only difference is that the dancer wears regular ballet shoes and performs on demi pointe. Basically, pre-pointe is the class that readies your feet and legs for the strength and skill needed to perform in Pointe Shoes.

Do you go on pointe shoes in pre-pointe?

It depends... i did but i know some schools don't let you until after pre-point. Generally you are in pre-pointe shoes which are similar but not the same. Even if you are allowed in pointe shoes you shouldn't try them unless you think you are really ready or you could do yourslef some serious damage.

When taking pre-pointe do u use pointe shoes or is it mainly just technice and ankle strengthening?

Depending on the studio you're at, pre-pointe is either preparing your body physically for pointe using regular shoes, or using Demi Pointe shoes. Pointe Prep is to strenghten your ankles, and body. It is the time for teachers to corect sickleing, how you hold yourself, ETC. It usally takes a year to go through pointe prep, (I know because I've been through it myself, I am on pointe) but somtimes it takes longer or shorter. Usually if you haven't gone through your big growthspirt yet you may not get your pointe shoes as soon as you like becasue the teachers don't want you to go through one and end up hurting yourself whenyou are on pointe

How do you get stronger for pointe?

You need to take a pre-pointe class first in regular ballet shoes, and do ankle exersizes, such as relavaes or pleaes. Your ankles are the main strencth point in pointe. If your ankles aren't stong, you will likely fall and hurt yourself.

For pointe shoes, you also need toe pads and toe seperations, and that comes to about sixty dollars or more. The canvas pre-pointe shoes are usually around thirty dollars. Be aware that you have to sew the straps of the pre-pointe shoes. Normal leather ballet shoes can be from fifteen dollars or less to thirty dollars or more.

This will be my 6th year of dance and im 11. my teachers are talking to me about prepointe but dont know if im done growing so i dont stunt my growth. how many years of pre pointe do you normallytake?

I did not take any prepointe. At my ballet school people take it for about 1 year, they only put you on pointe if you are ready at my school. Pre pointe does not stun your growth.
