You should only dance on pointe when you have an experienced dance instructor conform that you are ready. My dance instructor knows someone who went on pointe too early and was consequently not able to have children.

Can Rihanna do ballet?

I sawed her on pointe shoes in umbrella but her feet were wrong why to do it. she had to make the position of her feet better. i have been on pointe shoes for 5 months and my dance teacher taught me alot about pointe shoes. The music video for All American Girl. was like that too. Carrie Underwood was wearing pointe shoes. Her feet were WRONG! So the answer to that question is no. you should not be on pointe shoes without a permission of a ballet teacher. you must get fitted for pointe shoes. you don't want to much gap and space inbetween. your shoes cant be big or small

How to Select The Right Shoe For The Right Kinds Of Dance?

Dance Shoes - Then and Now We can thank shoemakers of the 15th and 16th centuries for the art of creating dance shoes. In Baroque courtesan dance, shoes were made for comfort while imparting elegance as worn exclusively by male dancers. They wore soft leather boots or heeled shoes with large buckles. By mid-16th century, ballet dance shoes were created for female dancers who were finally allowed to perform publicly. Today, dance shoes are worn for ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, Irish step and flamenco dance. Dance shoes are also required for ballroom dance and square dance. How To Choose The Right Dance Shoes Ballet dance usually begins with training in a soft leather shoe with a pleated toe. As dancers begin to advance, they will graduate to wearing pointe shoes made of satin-covered fabric. However, the toes of pointe shoes are blocked or stiffened so that the dancer can perform ballet on her toes. In early Vaudeville days, these pointe shoes could have a metal tap attached to the toes to allow dancers to tap dance on the tips of their toes. Tap dance shoes basically have a small metal plate attached at the toe and also at the heel. There are two types of tap dance shoes: those with flat heels and those with a one or two inch chorus girl heel. Flamenco dance shoes are similar to tap dance shoes. Irish Step Dance shoes also have metal taps on the heels and toes; but these dance shoes are more flexible and allow for dancing on half toe. Jazz dancers usually prefer to wear a soft leather oxford shoe with an elk sole and pleated toe for flexibility of movement. Hip hop dance shoes are usually the same type of ballet slippers or jazz oxford, depending on the dancer’s preferences. Ballroom Dance and Square Dance Shoes Ballroom dance shoes tend to be quite glamorous. They are usually colored to match dance costumes and are most often dyed satin fabric with a mid-size heel for women. Male ballroom dancers wear black leather dance shoes. Male square dancers often choose cowboy boots while the women wear mid-size heeled dance shoes.

Can you do ballet at any age?

You can start ballet at any age but if you expect to dance en pointe you wont. I started ballet at age 2 and i got my shoes when i was 12 it takes 8 years minimum to get pointe shoes but most school dont let girls start intill there 12 or older. It might be hard to get into a begginers class because most girls are already on pointe you might get into a class with 11 year olds or younger. I recomend doing a diffrent type of dance like jazz or lyrical because they dont need as much trainingListen, I knew a girl that started ballet at 7 years old (and that's pretty late) but she is one of the best dancers ever!! (I mean, she's not exactly as famous as like, Baryshnikov, but she is still really good! (:

What is the future of the ballet shoe?

Long explantion of pointe shoe history (skip this if you already know about pointe shoes ) I haven't heard anything about ballet shoes (canvas or leather soft shoes) changing besides companies maybe finding better (lighter and more durable) materials to make them out of. Pointe shoes on the other hand are consistently changing. Originally, pointe shoes used to be made out of wood and very hard materials. This was okay at the beginning of pointe work just because dancers didn't have the feet and strength dancers have today. Over time though, the pointe shoe has become relatively soft compared to its ancestors. Now pointe shoes are made of layers of fabric and paste. This allows the pointe shoe to be softer and more flexible.New advances in pointe shoe technologyGaynor MindenRecently new advances in pointe shoes include a flexible plastic shank introduced by the pointe shoe company Gaynor Minden. They advertise this new shank as long lasting and a pointe shoe that it has the feeling of an already broken shank (leather sole that supports the foot). I personally know a girl who has amazing feet and has worn both Russians and Gaynor Minden pointe shoes. She said that Gaynor's really require a lot of foot strength via the flexible shank, versus the Russians which have support, but die easily.NikeThe most interesting advancement in pointe shoes (and probably why you wrote this question) is Nike's concept idea of a sport pointe shoe. Released last year, this concept sports a black pointe shoe made of some durable, yet flexible material that can supposedly last way longer than normal pointe shoes. As i said earlier, this is a CONCEPT. As we have seen this year, Nike has already started to dabble in the dance field, by introducing their "Studio Wrap" shoes. If Nike indeed decides to pursue this concept, I think there will a lot of resistance. Ballet is know as a graceful and classical sport/art form, and bringing in a modren looking shoe might upset people. In addition, most pointe shoe companies have been making pointe shoes for around a hundred years. This has lead to multiple versions of pointe shoes and extensive knowledge of the pointe shoe. Unless Nike gets some very knowledgeable pointe shoe manufactories on its side, I think no dancer will take the product seriously.
