Elway tried negotiating a way out of Baltimore, but after failing to engineer a trade, his agent began circulating rumors that Elway would happily play baseball for the New York Yankees (who had drafted Elway in the 2nd round of the 1981 MLB draft) rather than suit up for the Colts. Eventually the Colts and Denver came to terms on a trade and Elway became a Hall-of-Fame signal-caller for the Broncos.
