How was football discovered?

That's a too general question if you ask me...
Football as a game, that was completely different than the
modern AF nowadays, has been played by native Americans centuries
ago... from what we know today.
But, the "blowing development" of football started from rather
"brutal traditions", that were celebrated in England in XIX. Those
"Brutal traditions" were games played during Fat Thursday.
Eventually, Americans have cribbed that IDEA from Englishmen and
adapted into intercollege competitions. From that moment on, the
football became very popular discipline, and was modified - several
times. Those modifications gave us the Football we know today.
Answering your question: Nobody knows how the football was
discovered; what we know are only effects of this discovery.
