In 1923 the Yankees beat the New York Giants. The Yankees beat the Pirates in 1927 and in 1928 they beat the Cardinals. In 1932 they beat the Chicago Cubs. In 1936 and 1937 the Yankees beat the New York Giants. In 1938 they beat the Cubs. In 1939 they beat the Reds. In 1941 they beat the Brooklyn Dodgers and in 1943 they beat the St. Louis Cardinals. In the 1947 season they beat the Dodgers again. From 1949-53 they won the World Series. They were against the Dodgers, Phillies, Giants, Dodgers, and then Dodgers again in that order. Once again they beat the Dodgers in 56. In 1958 the Yankees beat the Milwaukee Braves. They beat the Reds in 61 and in 62 they beat the Giants (Now in San Francisco). The Yankees went through a 15 year World Series drought but eventually in 1977 and 78 they beat the Dodgers. Once more a World Series drought of 18 years led to a 1996 World Series win over the Atlanta Braves. In 1998, 1999, and 2000 the Yankees won it all beating the Padres, Braves, and Mets in that order. In 2009,"The Yankees are back on top" said Joe Buck after they beat the Phillies.
