As with all questions of this nature, the answer is up to debate. If you are looking for the current best player in the world, then the choices would be Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka or some may say Lionel Messi, but Messi has not achieved much over the past year so i will omit him. Cristiano Ronaldo - In fantastic form this season, he has scored 27 goals in all competitions, and has led Manchester United to a three pronged attack in the Champions League, Premiership and FA Cup. His performances in all competitions have been excellent and he has just continued where he left last season, when he scored 23 goals and was crucial in United's European campaign where they reached the semis, the FA Cup where they reached the final and in the Premiership where they won. He scored some critical goals, like the winner against Fulham and the equaliser against Reading, and was instrumental in crucial games like the Blackburn and Bolton games. He set up many goals as well. Ronaldo swept just about every domestic award that season - PFA Player of the Year, PFA Young Player of the Year, Football Writers Player of the Year and he was named in the Premiership Team of the Year. However, he lost out to Kaka for the FIFA World Player of the Year and in the European Player of the Year awards. His critics point out that he didnt perform in the big games at the end of the season - against Milan he was outperformed by his rival, Kaka, and in the FA Cup final. His record against the other teams in the Big Four in England is poor - 4 goals in 26 games. Kaka - his claim to the title centred around his performances in Milan's victorious Champions League campaign, where he led Milan to the final virtually single handedly. He scored 10 goals en route to the final, three of them in the semi final against Manchester United where his performance dwarfed Cristiano Ronaldo's. He was magnificent, and he won the Serie A foreign player of the year award, and he was the winner of the FIFA World Player of the Year and the European Player of the Year awards. However despite all this European success, Kaka and Milan were shockingly poor in the Serie A, where they finished fourth, a full 36 points behind their city rivals Internazionale. The story is the same this season. The Champions League second round is just starting, so things may change, but Milan are once again very poor in the Serie A. In fifth place, and already 21 points behind Internazionale, they are in danger of missing out on a place in the Champions League. Kaka has not been performing this season in the league again. All things considered, of the two, i think that Cristiano Ronaldo is the better player, and so yes, i think he is the best in the world. While Milan played well in the Champions League, they were poor in the Serie A (especially toward the end of the season) because they were resting players for the Champions league. Cristiano Ronaldo however had to play in three separate tournaments, meaning that by the end of the season he was exhausted. This obviously affected his performances. I value more a player who plays well in a league campaign - that is 38 games as opposed to a player who plays well in just one cup tournament (13 games)
