You may mean Eddie Sachs. If that's the person you are refering to, he was a Sprint, midget, and Indy car driver in the late 40's to early 50's. He was refered to as the "Clown Prince of Indy" for his outrageous sense of humor. Sadly he lost his life, along with Dave MacDonald, in the 1956(?) Indy 500. It was a fiery wreck that led to the ban of Gasoline as a fuel at Indy. That's when they switched to an alcohol based fuel. I know his son Eddie Jr., and met Eddie's widow, the now Mrs. Armstrong. You can tell the apple didn't fall too far from the tree, as far as sense of humor goes.
