AnswerScuba Divers cannot rise from the water too fast because if they come up too fast they get that feeling like when you are on a roller coaster and you go over a hill really fast and they could die from that because the pressure is much greater

WRONG if a Scuba diver comes up too fast their body fills with a deadly amount of nitrogen which then makes the blood boil, therefor can cause death.

CORRECT ANSWER:

A diver while under water breathes a higher percentage of Nitrogen than he does on the surface. As he come up this nitrogen expands (boyles law) and if you dont come up nice and slowly (which allows you to just breathe out the excess) it can form bubbles in the blood which cause Decompression Sickness (the bends). Imagine a bottle of soda if you shake it the gas expands in the solution. If you open the bottle slowly the gas escapes without any real problem, however if you open the bottle quickly the soda will bubble everywhere - this is the same basic principle.

When coming up the air in your lungs expand, so u can't overexpand them so you come up slowly. Also the nitrogen in your skin has to come out. (decompression)

Why are most scuba diving helments brown?

SCUBA means self contained breathing apparatus. Most scuba divers wear neoprene hoods and these come in a variety of colours. I think you are talking about standard dress or hard hat diving where the diver has a big spherical helmet and lead boots. These divers are not SCUBA as they have air pumped from the surface. These helmets look brown because they are made of brass and copper which turns brown when it oxidises. If you polished it up, it would look gold in colour.

How do you get the bends?

There are two steps:1). Live and work in an environment of increased pressure for some period of time.2). Move rapidly to an environment of decreased pressure. One example: SCUBA or deep-sea divers who have been at the bottom for an extended periodand then come to the surface rapidly. That's how it's done. Please note: You don't want it !

2 Why does decompression illness occur among scuba divers but not among snorkelers?

The illness is related to pressurised gases... THE nitrogen gas IN THE BLOOD is at the breathing pressure it was breathed in at, so if u snorkel u breathe nitrogen at the surface pressure and that means you can hold your breath and surface fast with no problems.with NO CHANCE of Bends!. If you hold your breath while using scuba the air expands as you surface and can kill you as the air expands. the same goes for the nitrogen bubbles released whilst on scuba... when you surface u do it slowly so as not to release the pressure of the gases in your body too quickly, coz the pressurised N2 wants to come out of your blood like lemonade bubbles if you take the top off too quickly

How do you go underwater in Antarctica?

Underwater research is conducted by divers wearing full wet suits and SCUBA gear. Dive tenders bore a hole in the sea ice, which is eight to 12 feet thick, and lay rubber mats around the hole. A weight on a rope is dropped to the benthos below. Flags are tied every 12 inches on the rope, so that a diver can always locate the rope that marks the dive hole. Divers fill specimen buckets with animals, stones and other material from the benthos, and the buckets are hauled up by the dive tenders. When the divers are ready to come to the surface, they return to the flagged rope and rise as fast as their bubbles. The dive tenders then help the divers out of the water.
