Because the Coach was accepting failure for his team. He had excuses but he did not believe he could win with that team. If the Coach doesn't believe in his players, why should they accept lofty goals. A less knowledgeable Coach with the passion and will to inspire is a better Coach in any sport than a genius who doesn't think they can do the job, in my humble opinion.
