Everything is about popularity. Although kids doctors are a requisite piece of the world, especially for a working mother and father who didn't specialize in the medical field, Basketball is a sport watched world wide. People want to see games, want to see these athletes perform moves no other can. There are hundreds of kid's doctors, but only so many talented basketball players.

It is far less than 1%. There are roughly 900 teams in college basketball, with an average of about 12-13 players per team, not included inactive players, which means over 10,000 players per year. There are roughly 360 active NBA players. The NBA is for the truly elite.

Supply and Demand. More people fill 20000 arenas for 82 games for men. LEss people for less games for less price see women. So if demand and profit is high, wages are higher for players. So women should start dunking or something, sorry

it does not require as much equipment(and is therefore cheaper) and can be played with less players than other popular sports such as baseball and football.

Is baseball better than basketball?

It depends on person to person, but for playing basketball requires less equipment and players. In watching basketball is more popular, but baseball is fun to watch too. I would rate basketball over baseball, but then again depends on person to person. Any answer would be opinionated; some people like baseball better, and others like basketball better.

How much money does the average basketball player earn in 10 years?

It would be difficult to determine the overall average salary of all professional basketball players in the world. However, a simple average can be determined. The lowest paid professional basketball players are the lowest paid players in the WNBA at $35,880. The highest paid player in the 2011 season is Kobe Bryant at $24,806,250. The simple average between these is $12,421,065. This is by no means an accurate depiction of what the average basketball player makes. Basketball is played around the world, and the NBA is the most prestigious, highest paying league. The WNBA has 12 teams, six in each division (East and West). There are 684 players (currently-2011) in the WNBA. The highest paid among them (Lisa Leslie) makes $103,500, so the average is $69,690 a year. An estimate of the worldwide average for all professional basketball players would be in the area of $100,00 a year or less US.
