Sputtering can be caused by a number of things. The most common include: Dirty fuel filter, malfunctioning TPS, bad gas, worn-out spark plugs/wires, or a timing issue. I suggest getting a tune-up and changing gas stations for a few tanks. A mechanic can reset the TPS fairly easily as well.

Why would transmission fluid turn brown in a 2005 Hyundai Elantra with 38K miles?

Hyundai runs their transmissions too hot by 10-15 degrees. The oil burns as a matter of course, usually within the first 20,000 miles of an ATF change. The only real cure is an aftermarket ATF cooler.

The Hyundai Elantra is a Smart Buy?

South Korea is not usually the first country that comes to mind when you think of innovation. However, Hyundai may be an exception to that rule. When this car brand was first introduced over twenty years ago, many Americans were skeptical. Time and again, Hyundai has surprised us. At first, no one could believe that a car with such an inexpensive price tag would be worth driving. Hyundai responded by being the first auto maker to back their vehicles with a ten-year, 100,000 mile, bumper-to-bumper warranty. They improved their quality until some experts were comparing their reliability to other leading import car makers. Finally, during the past recession, Hyundai promised new car buyers that they could return their cars without a penalty if they lost their jobs. Other car makers soon followed suit and copied Hyundai’s new policies. The results have varied for other manufacturers as illustrated by Hyundai’s record breaking sales during a recession that has hit other auto makers very hard. The Hyundai Elantra continues to be one of Hyundai’s most popular models. The Elantra MSRP starts at just over $14,000 which compares extremely well when compared to similar models in both the import and domestic categories. When the generous warranty and the 35 MPG fuel rating is added to the picture, most would agree that the Hyundai Elantra is a smart buy. While the price is low, the Elantra does not skimp on the extras with this economy car. Although the outside dimensions put this car in the compact car class, the government considers it a mid-sized car based on the interior dimensions. When the cargo and passenger areas are combined, the Hyundai Elantra offers a roomy 112.1 cubic feet of inside space. The Elantra also boasts ten storage compartments throughout the interior that are placed exactly where you would need them. Whether you need a cubby for your spare change or a pocket to hold paperwork, everything will be neatly organized. The standard Hyundai Elantra will come with remote keyless entry, sport-tuned steering and suspension, and electronic stability control with a traction control system. To make this vehicle even more attractive, Hyundai has also added a six-speaker 172-watt AM/FM/CD/MP3/XM® audio system3 with an iPod®/USB and a MP3 auxiliary input jack. Top this list off with dual power heated side mirrors and audio controls on the steering wheel. If you need more, upgrade to a powered sunroof and heated front seats. With all of this at such a small price, it’s no wonder that Hyundai has been breaking sales records.
