In the 1930s, Germany and Japan were similar in a number of ways. Perhaps most importantly, each viewed itself as generally superior to the nations, peoples, and cultures surrounding it, with a strong emphasis on 'race-superiority' as integral to the national identity of each. Furthermore, each viewed political, diplomatic, economic, and military aggression as justifiable on the basis of its supposed superiority. Finally, each was dedicated to expanding its military for the sake of carefully planned and much-anticipated wars in the near future.
