A kite string is a string which connects a kite to the person flying it. The string not only prevents the kite from flying away but actually keeps it flying by assuring that it does not turn from the wind.

The answer depends on the string attached to the kite. The kite
will reach a point where the weight of the string overcomes the
lift the kite is able to achieve.

Kite string comes on wooden dowels, about half an inch to an
inch in diameter, with the string wrapped around the dowel. One end
of the string is attached to the kite, while the other end is
attached to the dowel that you hold while flying the kite. The
dowel allows you to easily release more string to let the kite go
higher, or to reel the kite back in to you.
