The Woodlawn Vase (Preakness Stakes Trophy) has ALWAYS stood at
34 inches high and is easily the most valuable trophy in sports. It
weighs 29 lbs 12 oz. It was designed by Tiffany's & Co.
The Stanley Cup was originally just the 7.28 inch "silver bowl'
at the top of the trophy we've come to know today. It was
redesigned in 1963 to have the four large tiers. The fact that the
Stanley Cup is now 35 inches tall makes me wonder if they added the
tiers in such a way just to be taller than the Woodlawn. It weighs
34.5 lbs.
The Woodlawn Vase is also much older, having been commissioned
in 1861 to Lord Stanley's 1892. The largest trophy in sport is
bestowed to CSKA Sofia in friendly international tournament in
Morocco in honor of Mohammed V in 1967. It weights nearly 100 kg
(220 lbs). This cup is currently in CSKA Sofia's museum.
