The matador is the torero (bullfighter) who kills the bull.

The banderilleros assist the matador in the ring and help protect him and draw the bull away if he gets into trouble. He may also have a mozo de estoques who handles and cares for the matador's equipment but never enters the ring. He stays in the callejon but is always ready to provide a replacement sword or other articles if needed.

The matador will usually have one or more banderillerosand may have his own picadores. However, many bullrings provide these persons from among local toreros. He may also have a mozo de estoques (sword boy) who helps him dress for the fight and is available in the alleyway (callejon) behind the actual ring to replace damaged swords or capes during the fight if needed. Most matadores also have managers who help them obtain contracts and who advise them during fights.
