How do you explain why 39 isn't a prime number?

One way to check if a number is prime is to try to divide it by all numbers smaller than it. If any of those divisions doesn't have a remainder, then it's composite (not prime). For 39, it's divisible in this way by 3 and 13. So it's composite.
