Used in gaming, a 'nub' is a person who never becomes proficient at playing a game, no matter how hard they try or how much they practice. The insult factor comes in because calling someone a nub is highlighting their deficiencies (which no one likes to have pointed out). Rather than name calling, it'd be better to show the person some game tricks or ways to play better.
